METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ENCODING AND DECODING FGS LAYERS USING WEIGHTING FACTOR

A method and an apparatus for encoding and decoding FGS(Fine Grain Scalability) layers using weighting factor are provided to improve the efficiency of coding related to all FGS layer frames and simultaneously control drift. A method for encoding and decoding FGS(Fine Grain Scalability) layers using weighting factor comprises the following steps of: computing a first weighting average sum using a recovered block of a base layer of current frame and a recovered block of n improving layer of previous frame(S102); computing a second weighting average sum using a recovered block of a base layer of current frame and a recovered block of n improving layer of next frame(S104); generating a prediction signal of the n improving layer of current frame(S108); and encoding residual data of the n improving layer(S110).
