A system for displaying residual quantity of a welding wire of a CO2 gas welder, which prevents defects from forming on a product and improves productivity by sensing the rotation number of feeding rollers for feeding the welding wire, thereby allowing an operator to easily recognize residual quantity of a welding wire remained in a wire drum according to the sensed rotation number, and a control method thereof are provided. In a CO2 gas welder comprising: a torch body(21) which has a space part(S) formed in an upper inner part thereof such that feeding rollers(27,29) rotated by a step motor(23) are installed at both sides within the space part, and which has a feeding passage(L) formed in a vertical direction thereof; a body cover(33) mounted on the top of the torch body to feed a welding wire(9) through the feeding passage; a welding tip(37) mounted on the bottom of the torch body through a connection block(35) to guide a welding wire to weldments(W); and a gas housing(39) which encircles an outer side of the welding tip, and which has a gas pipe(13) connected to one side thereof such that the gas housing is mounted on the bottom of the torch body, a system for displaying residual quantity of a welding wire of the CO2 gas welder comprises: a dog rotary plate(43) which is integrally mounted on a rotary shaft of one feeding roller to be rotated together with the one feeding roller, and which has a sensing dog(45) formed at one side thereof; a sensor(47) which is mounted on an inner side of the body cover and electrically connected to a controller(50) to output a sensing signal to the controller by sensing the sensing dog on the dog rotary plate within the space part; and a display means(60) electrically connected to the controller to display the residual quantity of the welding wire such that an operator recognizes residual quantity of a welding wire according to an output signal of the controller.
