The invention particularly relates to a method for provision of traffic status information, in the context of traffic status recognition (500), by means of a motor vehicle, in particular, traffic information for detection of traffic congestion, whereby the vehicle comprises a device for position recognition using a digital road map stored on a data support, in particular, a GPS navigation system with a DVD as digital road map. According to the invention, qualitatively high-grade traffic information may be provided at reasonable cost, whereby, in a first step (302, 307, 312, 314, 316, 318) a determination is made as to whether the vehicle is subject to at least one traffic influence which normally lead(s) to reduction in vehicle speed relative to the normal speed without such traffic influences, in a second step, a value (N1, N2, N3, N4, N5, N6), for each relevant traffic influence is set, in a third step, an addition (305, 310, 313, 315, 317, 319) of the values for the traffic influences is carried out and thus a total value for the traffic influences is reached, in a fourth step (320), a comparison of the determined total value (M6) with a pre-determined reference value (Mb) is carried out and, in a fifth step (321), a lower speed threshold (S1) and/or an upper speed threshold (S2) are reduced (321), when the determined total value (M6) is the same or greater than the reference value (Mb). |
