Ester and nitrile production

Esters and nitriles of unsaturated aliphatic carboxylic acids are prepared by the dehydrochlorination of esters and nitriles of chlorinated aliphatic carboxylic acids in the gaseous phase at elevated temperatures at atmospheric or reduced pressure, the reaction being characterized by briefly heating a mixture of the chlorinated ester of nitrile with steam at a temperature between 350 DEG and 750 DEG C.
