[Also in Division F1 A drive system for oscillating an element, e.g. a mower cutter, comprises a shaft 3 coupled by an arm 11 to the element and oscillated by a double-acting piston acting through a rack 14, and a shaft 2 carrying a flywheel 4 and oscillated by a double-acting piston acting through a rack 13. the shafts being coupled by a forked member 10 on shaft 3 having conical apertures 8, 9 receiving pins 5 and 6 on shaft 2. The arrangement is such that the shafts oscillate with the same frequency but with a relative phase displacement of 90 degrees, so that the flywheel 4 acts to effect reversal of the oscillating element. The piston and rack assembly driving shaft 2 may be omitted. The shaft coupling has a shock-preventing action whereby, if the oscillating element and shaft 2 are jammed during movement in one direction. shaft 3 continues to move and then acts to move shaft 2 in the opposite direction. |
