<p>A roll/slide member consisting of a steel comprising 0.9 to 1.1 wt.% C, 0.5 to 3.0 wt.% Si, 0.05 to 0.5 wt.% Mn, 2.0 to 5.0 wt.% Cr and 0.05 to 0.5 wt.% Mo with the balance composed of Fe and unavoidable impurities. The steel contains spherical carbide of <= 0.6 Vm average particle diameter in an amount of <= 6.0% in terms of area ratio. The roll/slide member is used in at least any one of disks (4,9) having a concave track surface on its lateral side disposed in a toroidal continuously variable transmission and roller (16) adapted to roll on the track surfaces (4b,9b) of the disks (4,9). The toroidal continuously variable transmission utilizing the roll/slide member attains prolongation of the operating life thereof.</p> |
