A process for producing a solution of a thermoplastic polymer, e.g., a polyester resin, and/or a solution of a product of the depolymerization of a thermoplastic polymer by efficiently dissolving the thermoplastic polymer and/or the thermoplastic-polymer depolymerization product. The process, which is for producing a solution of a thermoplastic polymer and/or a solution of a product of the depolymerization of a thermoplastic polymer, is characterized by feeding a thermoplastic polymer in a molten state into an apparatus through a feed opening, ejecting the melt through the holes of a perforated plate, and then bringing it into contact with a solvent vapor while allowing it to flow down along the surface of a support disposed within the apparatus.
