A digital broadcasting receiver and a method for outputting program starting notification are provided to allow a user to more conveniently view digital broadcasting by outputting the program starting notification when a program of a channel designated by the user is started. A DMB receiving unit(160) receives EPG(Electronic Program Guide) data. An input interface unit(150) receives the setup of one or more channels for program starting notification according to selection information of a user. A storing unit(140) stores the EPG data and the one or more set channels. A control unit(130) detects channel-classified EPG data corresponding to the set channel from the storing unit(140), generates program starting notification information for the program starting notification according to the detected EPG data, and outputs at least one program information included in the generated program starting notification information. An output interface unit(180) outputs the program information while digital broadcasting is outputted.
