In a fluid flow damping valve for use in vehicle shock absorber pistons wherein a stack of one or more annular foils a, b rests with their lower face in contact with an inner seat R and their upper face in contact with an outer seat formed by the piston skirt J, each face bears against the respective seat according to the direction of fluid flow and a desired pressure ratio for both directions of operation is obtained by a conical or curved projection C from within the inner seat R which increases the resistance to fluid flow. The seats R and upon J are formed at different levels to pre-load the discs and permanently open passages may be provided by notches i in the skirt J or around seat R, perforations through a disc if singly employed, or perforations K (Fig. 4, not shown) through a stamped plate if used for the inner seat R. A varying flow resistance may be provided by the use of conical passages e. During use the discs may be centred by a number of radial projections d (Fig. 5, not shown) from the conical surface C.</p> |
