A hydrostatic drive comprises a pump and a motor, the pump being a gerotor pump having the annulus or the rotor axially split into two parts of unequal length, and with means for turning one part relative to the other. As shown in Figure 6, rotor-part 66 is longer than rotor part 64, and is journalled on bush 76 carried by shaft 78 which can be turned by a rack and pinion or the like. When so turned, the rotor parts 64 and 66 go out of phase and the volume delivered by the pump reduces first to zero and then increases in reverse direction to a smaller output.
