A method of discerning whether a vehicle is to be fueled is provided to determine whether a driver intents to fuel the vehicle or not and to measure remaining fuel volume by determining whether a fuel door switch is on and whether the vehicle is in a fuel injection standby mode or in a fuel injection cancellation mode based on the speed of the vehicle. A method of discerning whether a vehicle is to be fueled comprises a first step of determining whether a fuel door switch(16) for opening a fuel door is on for a predetermined period of time, and a second step of determining whether a vehicle is in a fuel injection standby mode or in a fuel injection cancellation mode based on the speed of the vehicle. The second step ignores the on state of the fuel door switch if the speed of the vehicle exceeds 100km/h. The second step measures the current remaining fuel if it is determined as the fuel injection standby mode, and proceeds to the fuel injection cancellation mode if fuel has not been injected or the vehicle moves over the speed of 50km/h. A microprocessor(12) controls the overall operations of the vehicle depending on various signals input through an ignition box(22). The microprocessor computes the vehicle speed with the signal from a speed sensor(20), and calculates the remaining fuel volume with the signal from a fuel sensor(24). A display unit(14) displays the various information under the control of the microprocessor.
