An apparatus and a method for controlling a media player in a mobile terminal are provided to control a media player executed in a background without executing a screen image. An input unit(102) includes a key for controlling a media player. A media management unit(108) controls an operation of the media player being executed in a background after receiving an instruction of a controller(100). When a key input for controlling the media player is sensed, the controller(100) instructs the media management unit(108) to control the operation of the media player being executed in the background.
