A method for connecting a data call of a network model-applied terminal is provided to minimize data call connection time delays and authentication failures between an Rm interface and a Um interface by preventing a call disconnection generated due to the discordance of authentication information during a network model-applied terminal's data call connection and removing unnecessary authentication attempts. In case a network model-applied terminal sets up a data service with a PDSN(Packet Data Serving Node) connected with a BSC(Base Station Controller) through an MS(Mobile Station), the PDSN requests the MS to convert and transmit an authentication request signal according to CHAP(Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol). The MS requests the terminal to convert and transmit an authentication request signal according to PAP(Password Authentication Protocol) in response to the PDSN's request. The terminal, in response to the MS's request, generates a PAP authentication request signal and transmits it to the MS. The MS reproduces and stores the PAP authentication request signal, converts it into a CHAP authentication request signal, and transmits it to the PDSN. The PDSN, receiving the CHAP authentication request signal, generates an authentication success signal and transmits it to the terminal. Receiving the authentication success signal, the terminal completes data service setup.
