A method of collecting and receiving road traffic information, and a navigation terminal for performing the same are provided to collect exact traffic information by transmitting optimal traffic information including link information of a road, speed information of a link, and local information. An activation of a traffic information collection mode is checked(S115). When the traffic information collection mode is activated, link information and an average speed of a vehicle corresponding to a traveling road are calculated(S120,S130). Traffic information format data having a local code corresponding to the traveling road is generated based on the link information and the average speed of the vehicle(S135). Wireless channel setting to a traffic information supplying server is requested(S140). The traffic information format data is transmitted through the set wireless channel(S150).
