Use of cholest-4-en-3-one derivative (I) or its additive salts of acids, or esters to prepare cytoprotective, particularly neuroprotective medicament. Use of cholest-4-en-3-one derivative of formula (I) or its additive salts of acids, or esters to prepare cytoprotective, particularly neuroprotective medicament. R : hydrocarbon chain of formula (a)-(f); either R1-R6 : H; or R1R2, R3R4, R5R6 : C-C bond; X : HO-N=. Provided that when X is oxygen atom then: either R is (b), R1 and R2 forms the carbon-carbon bond, and R3-R6 are hydrogen atoms; or R is (f), R1 and R2, and R3 and R4 form the carbon-carbon bonds, and R4 and R6 are hydrogen atoms.
