A developing apparatus is provided to prevent a developer from being unstably discharged from a developing container caused by a residual of the developer adjacent to a developer discharge hole. A developing container(22) contains a developer including a toner and a carrier. A hopper supplies the developer including the toner and the carrier to the developing container(22). A developer discharge hole(40), formed in the developing container(22), discharges the developer contained in the developing container(22). A carrying member includes a rotary shaft(52) and a screw blade(51). The carrying member, disposed to be adjacent to the developer discharge hole(40) of the developing container(22), carries the developer. The carrying member has higher developer carrying ability in an opposite region where the carrying member is opposite to the developer discharge hole(40) in comparison with an upstream-side region of the carrier discharging hole(40) for a developer carrying direction. The carrying member has the same developer carrying ability or higher in comparison with the opposite region in a downward-side region of the developer discharge hole(40) for the developer carrying direction.
