A lithium secondary battery is provided to improve the safety by inhibiting a swelling phenomenon occurring at the top of a battery can, particularly in an abnormally charged condition. A lithium secondary battery comprises: an electrode assembly(110) including two electrodes having the opposite polarity to each other and a separator interposed between the two electrodes and wound in the shape of a jelly roll; a can(120) for receiving the electrode assembly therein, the can having a top support(125); and a cap assembly including a cap plate sealed to the can, and a terminal equipped with an insulation member(160) inserted into the cap plate and having a polarity different from the polarity of the can. |
