COMPOSITION COMPRISING AN EXTRACT OF EUONYMUS ALATUS(THUNB.) SIEB. FOR PREVENTING AND TREATING DIABETES MELLITUS

A composition for preventing and treating diabetes mellitus comprising the extract of Euonymus alatus(Thunb.) Sieb. is provided to reduce sugar in blood by inhibiting activity of alpha-glucosidase and inhibit rapid increase of glucose concentration in blood by inducing slow digestion of carbohydrates after meal without side effects. A composition for preventing and treating diabetes mellitus comprises 0.1-50 wt.% of the extract of Euonymus alatus(Thunb.) Sieb. which is prepared by extracting Euonymus alatus(Thunb.) Sieb. with water, C1-C4 lower alcohol or a mixed solvent thereof, and is a pharmaceutical or health food composition having a formulation selected from powder, granule, tablet, capsule, syrup and beverage.
