A mobile terminal having a multitasking function is provided to smoothly perform multitasking by simultaneously displaying two screen images on the divided screens of a display unit when a different application program is executed while receiving a broadcast, receiving information from a user, and processing the inputted information. A broadcast receiving unit(10) receives a broadcast signal and outputs a video signal based on the broadcast signal. When an application program is executed while a broadcast screen image corresponding to the video signal is being displayed in the first direction, a multitasking controller(50) controls the broadcast screen image to have a size corresponding to the first region, and display it in the second direction on the first region, and display an image of the application program on the second region of the display screen. A display unit(60) displays the broadcast screen image in the second direction on the first region, and displays the screen image of the application program on the second region of the display screen.
