<p>#CMT# #/CMT# Pyrotechnic object (I) comprises an oxidizing filler, a reducing filler and excludes a binder. (I) is present in the form of a cylindrical monolith block of greater than 5 mm in thickness and 10 mm in diameter. (I) has porosity of 1-8%. #CMT# : #/CMT# An independent claim is included for a process of preparing (I) comprising dry/wet mixing of the powdery fillers, granulating the mixture, calibrating the obtained granules, and compressing the calibrated granules to obtain (I) with the given specific parameter. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# (I) is useful in a gas generator (claimed) for airbags of automotive vehicles of civil and military sectors. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# (I) is free of binder (claimed) that would affect the combustion process. (I) provides non-toxic-, long-term-, low-flow- and low-working pressure gas. #CMT#INORGANIC CHEMISTRY : #/CMT# Preferred Composition: (I) comprises guanidine nitrate (as reducing filler) at 45-55 wt.%; copper nitrate (as oxidizing filler) at 40-50 wt.%; and other additives at 0-5 wt.%. Preferred Process: The mixing and granulating steps are carried out under dry condition. The process is carried out using the reducing filler of >=200 mu m in diameter. The granules are calibrated by sieving in such a way that the granules of greater than 200 mu m in diameter are retained. The compression step is effected under a pressure of 15 to 35x10 6> Pa for 0.1-30 seconds. Preferred Components: The thickness and the diameter of the block are 10-60 mm. The porosity of the block is =5%. (I) is also present in the form of a muff of greater than 10 mm in diameter. The oxidizing filler is ammonium-, potassium-, sodium-, barium-, strontium-, copper nitrate (preferred), ammonium-, potassium- and/or sodium perchlorate. #CMT#ORGANIC CHEMISTRY : #/CMT# Preferred Components: The reducing filler is nitroguanidine and/or guanidine nitrate (preferred). #CMT#EXAMPLE : #/CMT# Typical composition comprised (in wt.%): guanidine nitrate (52.44); copper nitrate (44.87); and alumina (2.69).</p> |
