PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a construction making a toroidal type continuously variable transmission 2 compact and lightweight in a continuously variable transmission capable of realizing geared neutral state. SOLUTION: A speed ratio (speed increasing ratio) of the toroidal type continuously variable transmission 2 is made to realize the geared neutral state at a value near 1.0. As a result of this, in the geared neutral state, bearing stresses applied to both input side and output side disks 5a, 5b, 6 constituting the toroidal type continuously variable transmission 2 can be roughly equal.
