PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a forced-air-cooled engine capable of always maintain high cooling performance by automatically removing, at proper timing, dirt and dust adhered to a cooling air inlet. SOLUTION: A recoil starter 21 is disposed on the upstream-most side of a cooling air passage 7 formed in the forced-air-cooled engine 1. The cooling air inlet 21b is opened in the recoil housing 21 of the recoil starter 20. A brush 30 in slidably contact with the recoil housing 21 along the cooling air inlet 21b is secured to a spoke 25c of a recoil reel 25 facing the inner surface of the recoil housing 21. Consequently, an operation for removing dust and dirt adhered to the cooling air inlet 21b can be automatically performed according to the starting operation of the engine 1.
