PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for applying a coating material capable of using a proper amount of the coating material by making coating thickness uniform which is attained by distributing the coating material roughly uniformly in an application nozzle, and an application nozzle for use therein. SOLUTION: The method for applying a coating material comprises a step of distributing a coating material 60 supplied from a coating material supply source 20 roughly uniformly in an application nozzle 40. The application nozzle 40 to be used in the method for applying a coating material comprising a supply section 41 supplied with the coating material 60 from the coating material supply source 20, a coating material storage section 43 constituted of a plate-shaped hollow space that stores the inflowing coating material 60 communicating with the supply section 41, and a coating material ejection section 45 constituted of a slit-type ejection port 451 disposed on the tip of the nozzle 40 is characterized in that the supply section 41 is disposed on the upper end of the coating material storage section 43 opposite to the coating material ejection section 45 with the thickness of the hollow space of the coating material storage section 43 made roughly equal to and/or not less than the diameter of the supply section 41 and the thickness of the slit of the coating material ejection section 45 made roughly equal to the thickness of the coating layer of the coating material 60.
