[MEANS FOR SOLVING THE PROBLEMS] A video indexing system is comprised of an index generating unit for generating an index, an index storing unit for storing the index together with place and related information, a video image characteristic generating unit, a video image characteristic storing unit for storing a video image characteristic together with place and related information, and a video image characteristic comparing unit for comparing a video image characteristic with the video image characteristic in the past and for outputting the index at output timing of the corresponding video image characteristic in the past as the present index in the case that they are consistent with each other.
