The method involves approximately localizing a pupil in an image. An examination window centered at a position is defined from the approximate position of the pupil. A gradient accumulation operation is applied to the luminance values of the pixels of the examination window. A running total is proportional to a definition score of the image. An Independent claim is also included for a digital image processing system.
