The method involves illuminating an edge (208) of a moved object (111) e.g. paper, using a lighting device (200), and acquiring an image of a section of the edge using an image acquisition device (210). The devices are activated in synchronism with the object movement and parallel to a direction of motion (220) of the object. The device (200) has a set of light sources, which are switched on and off individually or in group synchronous to the movement and parallel to the direction of motion. The illumination is such that the object allows moved shades (206, 206.1) to be of constant size. An independent claim is also included for a device for an image acquisition of an edge of a moved object in a print substrate processing machine.
