PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst material or the like for a fuel cell having high durability and catalytic activity for the purpose of improving the utilization efficiency of catalyst particles.

SOLUTION: The catalyst material for the fuel cell has a carbon material, and one or more hydrophilic segments and one or more hydrophobic segments which are identically or separately coupled to and installed on the surface of the carbon material via a coupling group having solvolysis resistance and heat resistance or directly. The hydrophilic segment has solvolysis resistance and the heat resistance, and also has an ion functional group while the hydrophobic segment has the solvolysis resistance and the heat resistance, and does not have the ion functional group.
