DOCUMENT DATA READING APPARATUS AND ITS COMPUTER PROGRAM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To transmit the scale of a table and information (items) shown in the table in an easy-to-understand manner when information shown in tabular format is presented in the form of voice output.

SOLUTION: An input part 10 inputs document data in which items and elements corresponding to the items are shown in tabular form. A table detecting part 12 detects table information from the document data. An item name detecting part 18a specifies item cells based on the content of the integrated and split states of cells in row and column directions from the cell at the left top corner, the content of the cell at the left top corner using a thesaurus dictionary 32 and on the content of the cells in row and column directions. An item number calculating part 18b calculates the number of item cells. An element number calculating means 18c calculates the number of element cells. A scale reading part 22a reads the scale and the overall picture of the table by performing grouping in the units of items so that they are easy to understand.
