PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an estimation method of an application amount of cosmetics capable of estimating objectively and accurately the application amount of cosmetics applied onto a bare skin. SOLUTION: In this estimation method of the application amount of cosmetics, the application amount of cosmetics is estimated based on a change of spread of light on each portion between the bare skin before application of the cosmetics and a makeup skin after application of the cosmetics. As the change of the spread of light, the change of the spread of light of the makeup skin to the bare skin is preferably used, which is determined as follows: concerning each of the bare skin and the makeup skin of aimed portion on the skin, the first irradiation domain and the second irradiation domain including the first irradiation domain and wider than the first irradiation domain are irradiated with light respectively; each emission light returned from the first irradiation domain and the second irradiation domain is received respectively; and the emission light quantity R1 from the first irradiation domain and the emission light quantity R2 from the second irradiation domain are acquired, to thereby calculate the change of the spread of light from the emission light quantity R1 and the emission light quantity R2.
