PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a house, particularly an apartment house, which is designed so as to have a dwelling unit cross section that has a possible highest ceiling height in a flexible manner from the viewpoint of a dwelling unit space, while suppressing a mean story height and a building height by taking into consideration plot conditions and construction costs, and achieves good privacy protection and high crime prevention performance. SOLUTION: The apartment house is constructed so as to have two dwelling units each having a standard story height H, superposed on each other, and the upper and lower dwelling units have a space of a heightα(0<α<H) interposed therebetween. The lower dwelling unit has a flat floor, and part of a ceiling is projected upward in cross section as a high ceiling. The upper dwelling has a skip floor, and a remaining area is recessed downward in cross section, to thereby have a high ceiling. Herein a shared corridor, an approach, or the like is arranged outside a lower portion of the space having the heightαinterposed between the two dwelling units, and a window is arranged at a height above a floor of the shared portion, to thereby improve privacy protection and crime prevention performance.
