PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a carbon fiber-silica composite material where a comparatively large quantity of carbon fiber is uniformly dispersed in the silica matrix. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a carbon fiber-silica composite material comprises a dispersing and a semi-gelling process (step S101, step S102) for dispersing carbon fiber in a sol solution containing at least an alkoxysilane, water, and an acid and semi-gelling the sol solution, a gelling process (step S103) for accelerating the gelation of the mixture obtained by the dispersing and semi-gelling process (step S101, step S102), and a heating process (step S104) for heating the gel obtained by the gelling process (step S103).
