PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a feeding device capable of preventing the attachment of a flaw on the back surface of paper by the tip of a returning lever during feeding while certainly returning the paper that has been almost multiply fed to an upstream side. SOLUTION: A turning shaft 20 of the returning lever 19 is retained in a fixed state until the returning lever 19 is passed through a nip point of a feed roller 11 and a retard roller 13 during the returning lever 19 is switched from a retreating attitude to a stand-by attitude, and the paper that has been almost multiply fed is certainly returned to the upstream side. After the returning lever 19 is passed through the nip point of the feed roller 11 and the retard roller 13, the returning lever 19 is downwardly displaced by a force received from the paper during feeding, and thereby, the flaw is prevented from being attached on the back surface of the paper during feeding.
