1,083,951. Water-cooled cylinders. MOTOREN-WERKE MANNHEIM A. G. Jan. 5, 1966 [Jan. 5, 1965], No. 562/66. Heading F1B. Coolant chambers 22 surrounding each cylinder of an I. C. engine are isolated from each other and each is fed from a common water-distributing duct 26 through an aperture 25. From the aperture 25 the coolant flow divides into a stream 27, flowing directly to apertures 11 and 12 in the base-plate 1 of the cylinder head, and a stream 28, flowing around the cylinder liner 23 to an aperture 13 in the base-plate and then, as a stream 29, to a coolant outlet 14. Coolant entering chamber 15 in the cylinder head through aperture 11 flows in streams 30 and 31 around a housing 10 for either a fuel injection nozzle or a sparking plug, then between inlet and exhaust ducts 7 and 8 and so to the coolant outlet 14. Partition walls 17 and 18 direct this flow, an aperture 19 and the clearance around the housing 10 in the wall 18 permitting the escape of vapour bubbles in streams 32 and 33. Coolant entering a chamber 16 in the cylinder head through aperture 12 flows in a stream 34 around the exhaust duct 8 and then around the inlet duct 7 to the outlet 14. The total cross-sectional area of apertures 11 and 12 may be eight times greater than that of aperture 13. |
