[PROBLEMS] To provide a liquid crystal display device formed of a plurality of stacked liquid crystal layers and capable of providing excellent display quality at a low cost; and an electronic paper having the liquid crystal display device. [MEANS FOR SOLVING THE PROBLEMS] This liquid crystal display device comprises the stacked liquid crystal layers (3r, 3g, 3b) and granular spacers (30) including first spacers (31) with side chains (34) on the surface and second spacers (32) with no side chains on the surface and maintaining the thickness of each of the liquid crystal layers (3r, 3g, 3b). The ratio of the first spacer (31) to the granular spacer (30) is different among the liquid crystal layers (3r, 3g, 3b).
