PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To select size according to a communication function usable in a current communication environment when selecting the size of an image to be transmitted photographed by a camera in a portable terminal unit having portable telephone and radio LAN communication functions. SOLUTION: A CPU 11 determines a currently utilizable communication function according to an ambient communication environment when the size of an image attached to a mail is selected. As a result, when a radio LAN network is utilizable and a public portable telephone network is not utilizable; a telephone communication 15 is selected as an effective function, and is guided up to the size corresponding to the transmittable file capacity of the radio LAN network as a selection candidate. When the radio LAN network is utilizable; a radio LAN module 24 is set to be an effective function, and is guided up to the size corresponding to the transmittable file capacity of the radio LAN network as the selection candidate. When an arbitrary candidate is designated from the selection candidates, an image file converted to file capacity corresponding to the designated size is transmitted from a telephone communication 15 used as an effective function or the radio LAN module 24.
