PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain excellent electro-optic characteristics by uniformizing an electric field distribution in crystal. SOLUTION: An electro-optic element using electro-optic crystal 40 has an anode 42a and a cathode 42b for applying an electric field to the electro-optic crystal 40, and the anode 42a contacts the electro-optic crystal 40 at a narrower area than the cathode 42b.
