PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inspection device capable of inspecting a preform, without requiring high-accuracy positioning. SOLUTION: This preform 1 inspection device is equipped with a ring light source 4 for irradiating light directed toward the end face of a mouth part of the preform 1 conveyed in a vertically held state. The preform 1 has a barrier layer inside, and the light, entering from the end face of the mouth part of the preform 1, undergoes irregular reflection on the boundary face of the barrier layer and generates light emission, due to the difference of each refractive index between a material used as a parent body of a plastic bottle and the barrier layer. The light emission state is imaged by a camera 3 provided at the outside, and an image imaged by the camera 3 is analyzed by an image processing device 2, and the barrier layer is inspected. By using a ring light source, the light is irradiated toward the end face, even if the positional accuracy of the preform 1 deviates slightly, and the preform 1 can be inspected.
