Procedure for the soil-processing of red mud residue obtained during the Bayer production of aluminum comprises mixing the red mud with a starch containing soil substrate to form a soil mixture; spreading the mixture on a processing surface; adding soil processing worms into the spread mixture composed of red mud and solid substrate; and biologically processing the mixture by the worms. An independent claim is included for a plant for the implementation of the soil processing of red mud, where the processing surface is arranged in at least an elongated trough tub (1, 1').
