The device has an impact absorber (2.2) and upfront sensors (2.1) for measuring an impact force, where the upfront sensors are arranged on an outer surface of a vehicle e.g. motor vehicle. A force transferring unit (2.3) is connected with the impact absorber and is adapted to transfer the impact force to the upfront sensors. The upfront sensors produce two output signals, which render a measured value in two partially different measuring ranges, where the upfront sensors have nonlinear characteristics.
