The invention discloses a method for transmitting documents over network, which comprises steps of: A. a document transmitting part converting the sharing document to be transmitted into a GDI electronic document by executing virtual printing program; B. the document transmitting part transmitting the GDI electronic document to a document receiving part over network; C. the document receiving part resuming the content information which is consistent to the content of the sharing document in step A based on the received GDI electronic document. The invention further discloses a system thereof and the document transmission is not restricted by application programs by using the method and system disclosed in the invention.
