<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the meandering direction and meandering amount of an endless belt, and to attain stable running of the belt, and to prolong the service life of the belt. <P>SOLUTION: Regarding the image forming apparatus including the endless belt stretched to be laid between a plurality of rollers so as to run rotatively, a magnetic zone 52 capable of recording magnetic information 52a is provided continuously on the belt 51, and also, a magnetic head 62 having a plurality of magnetic detection Gaps 62a and 62b for reading and detecting the magnetic information 52a recorded on the magnetic zone 52 is provided facing the magnetic zone 52. The meandering direction and meandering amount of the belt are detected by a signal comparison/decision means 70 for comparing the pieces of information detected by the Gaps 62a and 62b and deciding the meandering of the belt in the width direction of the belt 51 and a meandering amount conversion means 71 for calculating the meandering amount of the belt in the width direction of the belt 51, based on the information detected by the Gaps 62a and 62b. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
