<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pump failure diagnostic apparatus capable of accurately determining the failure of a pump when the SCV of a supply pump is diagnosed for defective sliding and used to eliminate an abnormality when it determines that the pump is defective and take an appropriate measure by accurately detecting the detail of the failure of the pump. <P>SOLUTION: With the feedback current of the SCV not applied to an engine while the engine is stopped, a predetermined (70% or more of allowable current value) large drive current is applied thereto to form an inspection current waveform. By comparing it with a pre-stored reference current waveform in the initial stage of the engine, determination with high accuracy can be performed. When the engine is determined to be defective, forced driving in which a predetermined current value generating an initial lift and a lift of 70% or more of the initial lift of a valve are alternately applied to the engine is repeatedly performed two times or more to eliminate a sliding defect. If the defect is not eliminated, the engine is determined to be mechanically defective, and an appropriate measure against the defect is taken. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
