PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display information for a sign difficult to see when a driver's visibility is poor, allowing the driver to see the displayed information for the sign without moving the visual line. SOLUTION: In this display system for vehicle 1, a current position and an advancing direction of a vehicle are detected, the degree of safety for weather or visibility is determined from data taken by an image pickup means 10 mounted on the vehicle, and an image such as a virtual scene is formed from a sign information database 5 and a road information database 6 based on the current position and advancing direction. When a low degree of safety is determined, a real nearby image and the virtual image are superimposed and displayed on the windshield of the vehicle while changing the transmittance so that both the images can be congruously continued according to the visibility distance.
