<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video cassette processor which reduces more power consumption during standing-by. <P>SOLUTION: This processor is provided with a REC-safety switch which is brought into contact with an inserted video cassette or the erroneous erasure prevention part of a set video cassette to be changed from an OFF state to an ON state, consumes power only in the ON state, and serves both as an insertion detection means for detecting the insertion of the video cassette and a recording inhibition detection means for detecting the recording inhibited state of the erroneous erasure prevention part of the video cassette. When the switch is changed from the OFF state to the ON state during standing-by, the insertion of the video cassette is determined.
