PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for readily producing a fibril-shaped crystal of an aromatic polyester, imparting low water absorptivity, electric characteristics and reinforcing effects to a resin, in high productivity. SOLUTION: The method of the following [1] or [2] provides the fibril-shaped crystal of the aromatic polyester: [1] the method for producing the aromatic polyester of the fibril-shaped crystal involving polymerizing an aromatic hydroxycarboxylic acid in the presence of an acid anhydride in a solvent at a temperature of≥200°C and≤400°C; [2] the production method described in the [1] further including an imidazole derivative as a polymerization catalyst.
