<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a subsidiary material for iron making capable of simultaneously achieving two targets of temperature rising and refractory protection. <P>SOLUTION: The subsidiary material is obtained by adding a carbon material, a magnesium compound and a binder to a fibrous waste melt-treated at high temperature, mixing them, and shaping in the particle diameter of 30-80 mm.
