PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an elevator preventing a car and a lower face of a counterweight from colliding with a buffer cap. SOLUTION: This elevator is provided with the car 1 vertically moving inside a hoistway; the counterweight 4 connected to the car 1 via a wire rope 3; a car side buffer 2 provided below the car 1; a counterweight side buffer 5 provided below the counterweight 4; and the buffer cap 6 provided to be attached to/detached from upper end parts of the car side buffer 2 and the counterweight side buffer 5 and supporting the dropped car 1 or counterweight 4. The elevator is further provided with a buffer cap storing case 8 capable of storing the buffer cap 6 and a buffer cap storage detecting means for detecting whether or not the buffer cap 6 is stored. When detecting that the buffer cap 6 is not stored, the buffer cap storage detecting means makes operation of the elevator impossible. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
