A pressure balanced solenoid control valve and a method for operating the same are provided to reduce the manufacturing cost for the valve by eliminating components such as ball valves, check valves, a large and heavy armature and/or a spring. A pressure balanced solenoid control valve comprises a member having a bore(52) formed with a first end and a second end, an armature(14), and a pole piece(54). The armature(14) extends at least partially into the bore(52) through the first end of the bore(52). The pole piece(54) extends at least partially into the bore(52) through the second end of the bore(52). An inlet pressure is applied between the armature(14) and the pole piece(54) to bias the armature(14) away from the pole piece(54). The inlet pressure is transferred through an orifice(50) in the armature(14).
