<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform suitable display in either case that a screen is viewed in the upward direction or downward direction. <P>SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device has first and second substrates, pixel electrodes in a lattice shape which are of ≤10 μm in width and ≤10 μm in gap, and a liquid crystal layer which is interposed between the first and second substrates and has its alignment direction restricted by the pixel electrodes so that the direction wherein liquid crystal molecules tilt is divided into two upward and downward directions on the screen.
