PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a read channel for offsetting nonlinear influence due to utilization of a magneto-resistive head. SOLUTION: A device used in a magnetic recording read channel which is connected to a magneto-resistive (MR) read head includes an integrated circuit which leads the secondary nonlinear characteristic of the amount to be controlled to a magnetic recording read channel signal path to partially offset at least the non-linearity due to application of the MR read head. A method for reducing the nonlinear signal effect due to application of the MR read head includes the step of guiding the valuable square of the read channel signal to a read channel signal path.
